Hi everyone
I just thought I would share with you a bit of my story so far since discovering George's book almost one year ago.
Before finding Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis I was a lost, scared, anxiety ridden 25 year old who had been living with MS for about 18 months.
I was terrified of my future, in fact, at that time, I felt like I had no future. The medications I was offered either offered little hope against relapses or had serious side effects, and I was told there was nothing else I could do. I believed my doctors and neurologist and although they were positive, their only solutions were drugs or the fact that "not everyone is badly affected by MS" - and this was my only comfort.
I was affected badly by optic neuritis in my first relapse and it took 100% of my left eye sight. Since that day I would wake up every single day, and one first thing that I would do was to check that my right eye (or as I liked to call it; My good eye) was ok. I was fortunate in that I regained back about 85% vision in my left eye, but some damage has been left behind. I was always paranoid that MS would take my right eye too.
In March last year, 18 months after my first optic neuritis episode in my left eye, I discovered my right eye was now going blurry and hazy. I was so upset, the one thing I dreaded happening the most, and it happened! However, I look back now and I now see that this was probably one of the best things to happen to me, and I will tell you why...
After this relapse, something sparked within me. For myself personally, I had hit rock bottom in terms of what MS could throw at me, so I began searching for something to help me, something I could do... This is when I discovered Georges book Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis. I started reading it straight away, and I was soon hooked and could not put it down. I cried, I smiled, I gasped, but most importantly I opened my eyes. All of a sudden I had HOPE. I discovered there was something I could do. I didn't have to be a "sufferer" anymore.
I immediately changed my diet, overnight in fact. It was coming up to Easter, and I decided that I believed in this SO much, the evidence was so clear, that I started there and then. I gave all my Easter eggs and chocolates away, without so much of one bite. For me this was probably the biggest test of them all, as I loved my chocolate!
But what this gave me, was not disappointment, it gave me a huge sense of empowerment. I felt strong and capable. I could do this. I WILL do this.
I must also add that, almost 12 months on, I feel fantastic. The residual crawling sensations in my face that I would feel most days, are now gone. I have more energy and less fatigue. I was initially told I have rapidly evolving severe RRMS, and I was relapsing every few months, but I am coming up to one full year now without one. For me, simply amazing.
I have subsequently developed a huge passion in nutrition. So much so that I am now helping others to become healthier and change their lives for the better. My direction in life is now nutrition. I am so excited for my future. I am looking into studying holistic, naturopathic nutrition to boost and expand my business.
I recently was asked to be on The Voice America Radio to discuss a bit about my story and my journey so far with MS, how I am overcoming it and to inspire and help others. Please feel free to listen to it here: www.voiceamerica.com/episode/752 ... e-is-power
I cannot believe how much I have changed, and in just under one year! Before, I had no real clue about nutrition, or even a slight interest. I am a shy person and going on the radio just would not have happened! But I now feel I need to share this information with others, I need to help others and spread the word!
So THANK YOU George, for sharing all what you discovered with the world. I now have hope and positivity and I will endeavour for the rest of my life to share, inspire and help others through health, wellbeing and nutrition.
Best wishes
Laura
