How do you keep living OMS simple?
A few months ago, a question was posted to the unofficial OMS Lifestyle Support Group on Facebook: 'How do you keep living OMS simple?'
The reply that came back from Lauren Jackson, in my opinion, nailed it. Brilliantly worded, her summary simplifies the OMS principles perfectly. Thank you for allowing me to re-post here Lauren:

The reply that came back from Lauren Jackson, in my opinion, nailed it. Brilliantly worded, her summary simplifies the OMS principles perfectly. Thank you for allowing me to re-post here Lauren:
First you accept that you had no choice about MS but that you can choose to overcome it. OMS is not a restrictive all consuming and limiting program. It is an empowering tool which will give you your life back. Then you sort your supplements out. Take your vit D and your flax or fish oil and others such as B12 and K as you feel appropriate. Get more exercise, even if all you can manage at first is a few steps or some stationary light weights just get moving. Find a meditation program that suits you. Personally I find transcendental meditation by far the simplest. Then diet which sounds daunting but needn't be. You no longer eat meat, egg yolks, dairy or coconut. If you want to keep oil really simple only ever eat extra virgin olive oil and don't fry with it or set the oven above 180c Eat nuts, seeds and avocado but don't go crazy. Limit your caffeine. For the first few months you'll read a lot of labels and think a lot. Then suddenly you'll realise you no longer think much about it. You know what's in the food you routinely eat, you know the brands that work and the recipes you enjoy. If you enjoy eating out you work with your local restaurants to make that happen. Counting sat fat is a tool that can be useful to start with but needn't take over your life. George tells us it is unnecessary if you stick to the diet. You teach the people in your life to support your positive decision. Then you stop letting MS rule your life. You stop sitting and wondering how much more this disease will take from you. You get out there and live your life. And you know what? Give it a few years and you may just find you're healthier than you were pre-OMS.
