The amount of evidence is overwhelming: smoking is bad for anyone’s health, but especially if you have MS. Those who quit smoking progress slower than those who keep smoking. To quote from a recent study from Ramanujam et al published in JAMA: “those who continued to smoke continuously each year after diagnosis converted to secondary progressive (SP) MS faster than those who quit smoking, reaching SP disease at 48 and 56 years of age, respectively.”
If you have MS and you have not been able to quit smoking, it is important you find help to quit. Lifestyle change is the key to living a healthy life with MS, and you can do it!
